Full description
Fancy coming along to connect with the purest, freest side of the sea?
Experience a day of authentic connection with the Mediterranean’s natural beauty. Set sail on a beautiful sailing boat from Port de Garraf and enjoy a 6- to 7-hour excursion sailing through the waters of the cetacean corridor linking Vilanova i la Geltrú and Cape Garraf in search of fin whales and dolphins, whilst savouring the silence of the wind in the sails.
The sea knows no timetable, but the wait on the open water is always worth it.
What we will do
We’ll be meeting at Port de Garraf, Sitges. There’s no need to arrive early, but please do be on time.
Following a brief briefing on safety and behaviour on board, we’ll cast off and set sail out to sea, heading for the heart of the cetacean corridor between Vilanova i la Geltrú and Cape Garraf – the area with the highest concentration of fin whales in the whole country.
We’ll cover around 30 miles in total, sailing under sail or at very low speed under motor power so as not to disturb the environment or the animals’ behaviour. We’ll seek out the best viewing spot in the open waters of the Mediterranean. The cetaceans set their own pace, so there is no guarantee that we will always see them; if they decide to come and say hello, we will experience a magical moment.
In any case, we’ll enjoy everything the open sea has to offer: we’ll spot migratory birds skimming the water’s surface as they pass the bow, cormorants in full flight and flocks of Balearic shearwaters, a protected species found exclusively in these waters. We’ll feel the hull cutting through the blue of the Mediterranean as we relax to the sound of the wind before setting course back to port.
The experience will last between 6 and 7 hours, depending on sea conditions.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is suitable for everyone. You don’t need to know how to swim; there are lifejackets on board.
There is no minimum age to take part in the boat trip, and babies also count as a passenger on board.
For people with mobility issues, the boat can be manoeuvred to within a few centimetres of the jetty to allow them to board. However, a wheelchair would not fit on board.
Other information
The activity takes place all year round, every day.
We’ll be sailing on the Bela, a Finnsailer 34 characterised by the design and elegance typical of Finnish boats. It is 11 metres long and can accommodate up to 12 people. Onboard amenities include: 3 cabins, a saloon, a fully equipped galley, a toilet. ..
You can bring your own food and drink and use the on-board fridge.
There is also the option to book an additional catering service at an extra cost. Please contact the boat’s captain for further information; you’ll find their contact details in your booking confirmation email.
There is paid parking near the harbour, and the nearest train station is about a 5-minute walk away.
