Full description
Did you know that in the Empordà Designation of Origin there are still vineyards planted on slopes so steep that machinery cannot access them? Here, the land is worked by hand.
Enjoy a wine tourism experience lasting between one and a half and two hours at a winery in Vilamaniscle, Alt Empordà. You’ll travel by car with the winegrower himself up to the mountain plots to take in the view of the valley and the Sierra de l’Albera, gain an insight into the traditional winemaking process and take part in a guided tasting of five organic wines with the Empordà Designation of Origin (D. O. Empordà, which have won awards such as the Vinari d’Or.
What we will do
We’ll meet at the time specified in your booking at the meeting point in Vilamaniscle, a village in the Alt Empordà where the peaceful atmosphere invites you to leave your worries behind straight away. There, the winegrower himself will be on hand to welcome us, ready to share the living history of an estate that has learnt to coexist with the most untamed terrain.
We’ll get into our cars and drive just one kilometre uphill along the slopes of the Sierra de l’Albera until we reach a viewpoint offering spectacular views of the vineyards at the Mas Pòlit estate and the entire Empordà valley. We’ll take half an hour to take in the scenery at our own pace whilst our host explains how the stony soil, the steep slopes and the Mediterranean climate shape the character and concentration of his grapes.
Back down below, we’ll head into the winery to tour the facilities and see first-hand how the traditional winemaking process works, uncovering the secrets behind each of their bottles.
To round off the experience, we’ll sit down to taste five of their organic wines with the Empordà Designation of Origin. If the weather’s on our side, we’ll stay outside and enjoy the terrace; if the wind picks up, we’ll settle into the indoor tasting area. Glass in hand, we’ll discover aromas, nuances and interesting facts explained directly by the person who tends the vines, bringing the experience to a close after a total duration of one and a half to two hours.
