Full description

If you head south, you can discover some of the finest wines from the Vinos de Madrid Designation of Origin.

Enjoy a wine-tasting experience right in the heart of Colmenar de Oreja. You’ll tour a historic winery, see how storage vats have evolved from the ancient earthenware jars of yesteryear to the present day, and descend into a recently restored 17th-century cave.

The tasting of three wines, paired with a local appetiser , will leave you with the best of tastes in your mouth.

What we will do

One of the winery’s owners will welcome us promptly at the premises, situated right in the centre of Colmenar de Oreja, some 50 km from Madrid. After a brief introduction, we’ll begin our guided tour of the complex whilst learning about each stage of the winemaking process for wines covered by the Vinos de Madrid Designation of Origin.

It will be like a journey back in time. We’ll tour the tank area and the barrel room, clearly observing the evolution of containers used in wine production: from the historic earthenware jars to the concrete tanks and on to the stainless-steel tanks. The tour will be rounded off with a visit to the 17th-century cave, an underground space carved directly out of the rock which has recently been restored.

And how can you really get to know a wine without tasting it? That’s why we’ll take part in a tasting of three wines representative of the winery, accompanied by a small local appetiser. The selection varies according to the season and the winery’s availability, usually including a semi-sweet, a dry white and a red.

The experience will last approximately one and a half hours, though it may be extended to two hours if we’re enjoying ourselves.

Who it is aimed at

The experience is suitable for all ages.

Under-18s will be offered grape must, fruit juice or soft drinks with their appetiser .

Pregnant women and those who do not drink alcohol may also request an alternative to wine during the tasting.

The winery’s facilities are accessible to people with mobility impairments or those in wheelchairs.

Other information

The tour is available all year round and is confirmed once a minimum group of 8 people has been reached .

If you have any allergies, intolerances or special dietary requirements, please contact the winery in advance to enquire whether they can provide suitable options for you as part of the aperitif. You will receive the contact details in your booking confirmation email.

Petsare not permitted on the winery premises.

Colmenar de Oreja is an interesting and little-known historic town to the south of Madrid; we recommend taking the opportunity to explore its Plaza Mayor, built over a bridge and a tunnel, visit the Ulpiano Checa Museum or take a stroll through its parks and gardens.

The winery has a few parking spaces for customers; if you’re also planning to visit the village, there’s a public car park about 150 metres away. It’s also possible to reach Colmenar de Oreja by bus from Madrid.
