Guided visit to olive grove and oil mill with oil tasting and tapas in Jaén

There are simple pleasures that change everything, like a good olive oil.

Get to know the "liquid gold" of Jaén walking among centenary olive trees, learn about oil production in an oil mill and take part in a guided tasting of 3 early AOVEs.

To savour the territory at 360 degrees, the experience will end with some typical tapas. Let yourself be conquered by the palate.

What we will do

The appointment will be 10 minutes before the reservation time in Begíjar, very close to Baeza. There we will be met by one of the owners, an expert in olive oil tourism and oil production, who will welcome us and explain how the experience will unfold.

The adventure will start about 2 km away from the olive oil mill: in the countryside. We will follow the guide in our own car to an olive grove located in Baeza (the road is easily accessible) , to be able to reproduce the complete journey of the olive from the branch to the packaging of the EVOO. There we will be able to enjoy the unique landscape of Jaén, in front of a sea of olive trees, and learn about the care and the differences between the olive trees. It will be the perfect opportunity for an introduction to the world of EVOO and to learn more about the history of the area.

Back at the facilities, we will visit the reception courtyards and the olive cleaning and classification area, as well as the old olive mill dating back to 1927. We will then enter the modern plant to see the actual process step by step.

We will close the experience with a guided tasting of 3 early harvest AOVEs:

• the authentic picual from Jaén, with fresh notes of freshly cut grass and tomato plants;
• the frantoio, with hints of dried fruit and apple;
• and the royal changlot, with hints of artichoke and aromatic herbs.

We will learn how to taste them like professionals, identifying the nuances and characteristics of each one. The tasting will be accompanied by a selection of typical tapas, which will include such delicacies as seasoned olives, piquitos de ochío, ham and cheese in oil, salmorejo with oil and shavings of ham, lomo de orza. .. . Each person will be able to choose a drink between olive beer, Jaén wine, soft drink or water.

The visit with tasting will last approximately 3 hours and a half.

The experience is suitable for everyone.

Both the olive mill and the surrounding olive grove are accessible to wheelchair users and people with mobility impairments.

The visit is available all year round and is confirmed when a minimum group of 2 persons is reached.

During the production season, the entire tour is conducted in the same way.

It is possible to do the tour in English or French for an additional fee.

There is also a restaurant at the olive-oil mill and it is possible to book a tasting meal with local products (23, 00 euros/person) . The minimum number of guests is 10 and the price is the same. There are free parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the mill. The area is not easy to reach by public transport.
