Visit to an award-winning cheese factory and its farm with a tasting session in Adeje, Tenerife

Did you know that some of Spain’s finest cheeses are produced in Tenerife?

Enjoy a one-hour rural experience at a cheese farm in Tijoco Alto, Adeje. Meet the herd of 450 goats and sheep, discover how the cheeses are made by hand, and taste three mature cheeses made with local produce, with the option of pairing them with local wines .

And all whilst enjoying incredible views stretching from La Gomera to Los Gigantes.

What we will do

We’ll meet up 15 minutes before our booking time at the Montesdeoca cheese dairy office in Tijoco Alto, Adeje. One of the owners will welcome us and guide us on a rural experience without straying far from the heart of Tenerife’s tourist area.

We’ll have exclusive access to a sustainable farm where a herd of 450 goats and sheep live at their own pace. We’ll stroll around the farm observing the animals, taking in the stunning surroundings with the Atlantic as a backdrop and enjoying unobstructed panoramic views stretching from the silhouette of La Gomera to the cliffs of Los Gigantes. Next, we’ll discover the traditional cheese-making process and see first-hand how each cheese is moulded at the island’s most award-winning cheesery (and one of the most award-winning in Spain) .

It won’t take us long to realise why it has won so many awards. We’ll take part in a tasting of three cheeses (semi-matured, matured and aged) to appreciate the different stages of maturation. If we wish, we can pair the experience with three local wines (white, red and sweet) . The tasting will be rounded off with the famous Montesdeoca goat’s butter and other local products such as almogrote, mojo picón and banana jam.

After the tasting, you’ll have some free time to wander around the farm at your own pace and spend some more time with the animals.

The experience will last 1 hour.

Who it is aimed at

The experience is suitable for people of all ages and perfect for families.

Children under 5 years old take part for free. Important: please contact the cheese farm in advance to let them know if you’ll be bringing children aged 0 to 4. You’ll receive the contact details in your booking confirmation email.

The experience is not accessible to wheelchair users. For people with other mobility issues, there are ramps available, but it is advisable to check with the cheese dairy in advance depending on the level of mobility required.

Other information

The experience is available all year round, from Tuesday to Friday.

You don’t need to worry if you’re lactose intolerant, as goat’s and sheep’s milk contain less lactose, and you’ll also be tasting matured products.

You cannot bring pets on this activity, as you’ll be visiting the facilities where the cheese is made.

There is free parking opposite the farm. The Tijoco Bajo bus stop is about a 20-minute walk away, although please bear in mind that it’s uphill.
