Full description
Meeee! No, that’s not the sound of your Monday morning alarm; it’s a little goat in Llanes letting you know that your blood cheese levels are dangerously low.
On this two-hour tour of a traditional, fourth-generation cheese dairy, you’ll get to meet its friendly owners, make your own fresh cheese in an artisan workshop and treat yourself to a tasting session paired with Asturian cider.
What we will do
We’ll meet 15 minutes before the agreed time at the cheese dairy in Llanes, Asturias. Our host family will be waiting for us there , ready to welcome us into their home with a smile and reveal the secrets of four generations dedicated to the art of cheese-making.
We’ll begin our adventure in the barn to meet the real owners of the place: the goats. We’ll go over to say hello, scratch them behind the ears and let their friendliness win us over whilst they explain the daily care routine and the tricks of milking to obtain that fresh, top-quality milk. From there, we’ll head into the heart of the cheese dairy, touring the production and packaging areas and the maturing chamber to discover the miracle of how the curd is gradually transformed into gastronomic gems such as the famous Picón cheese.
Then comes the moment of truth: we’ll go from spectators to artisans. We’ll slip on protective shoe covers and adjust our hats with the utmost style before entering the workshop area. Guided step by step, we’ll proudly get our hands dirty kneading, shaping and creating our very own fresh goat’s cheese.
And as every effort is rewarded in the countryside, we’ll round off the day with the much-anticipated tasting session. We’ll sit down to savour their finest goat’s cheeses, paired seasonally with blueberry, apple or walnut jams, and accompanied by sweet or traditional cider. And so we’ll bring to a close two hours of rural immersion, feeling like true master cheesemakers and saying goodbye to the family before heading home.
