Truffle-hunting experience in Ocenilla, Soria

Enjoy a 2-hour truffle-hunting experience in Ocenilla, Soria. At the foot of the Sierra de Cabrejas, you’ll discover the secrets of the black truffle through an interactive talk, meet the farm animals and head into the woods with dogs trained to ‘hunt’ for this coveted underground fungus.

What we will do

We will meet approximately 5 minutes before the booked time at the meeting point in Ocenilla, Soria. There, we will be welcomed by expert guides specialising in professional truffle farming.

Once everyone has arrived, we will head to the estate’s nursery, situated at the foot of the Sierra de Cabrejas and next to one of the largest juniper groves in Europe, to begin the training session. We’ll spend between 30 and 45 minutes on an interactive talk where we’ll discover the secrets of the black truffle ( Tuber melanosporum) , its varieties and the keys to recognising its aroma.

The second part of the experience will take place in the fields, where we’ll put what we’ve learnt into practice. But first, we’ll have a little time to stroll around the farm and say hello to its inhabitants: alpacas, geese, hens, pygmy goats… and even a peacock!

After this leisurely interlude, we’ll walk about 800 metres up a gentle slope and begin the truffle hunt, accompanying the truffle-hunting dog as it tracks the truffles, following in its footsteps whilst it detects the fungus buried beneath the holm oaks. We’ll walk amongst ash trees, oaks, heather, pines and, above all, holm oaks, whilst learning how to extract the truffle from the ground alongside our guide, savouring the intense aroma of the freshly unearthed truffle.

If you wish, at the end of the experience you can purchase the truffles you have harvested and find recipes to make the most of their aroma in your cooking.

The experience will last approximately 2 hours in total.

This experience is suitable for the whole family.

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

This experience is not suitable for people with severe mobility impairments or those in wheelchairs.

Other information

The truffle season for this experience runs from approximately December to March, or until the harvest is exhausted. The activity is confirmed once a minimum group of 6 participants has been reached.

There is free parking on the estate. It is not possible to reach the area by public transport; the village centre is about a 10-minute walk away (uphill) .
