Full description
If you’re fed up with paddling whilst staring at the horizon and missing out on all the wonderful things happening beneath your feet, it’s time to hop aboard a vessel that is, quite literally, an open window onto the seabed.
Discover Cabo de Gata-Níjar from a unique perspective. During this 2-hour group tour, you’ll paddle aboard a fully transparent two-person kayak that will allow you to admire the protected flora, fauna and seabed in ways you’ve never imagined before. Guided by professionals, you’ll paddle along the coastline to spot fish and octopuses, explore coves inaccessible by land and enjoy a 20-minute stop for some snorkelling.
A relaxed, fun adventure suitable for everyone!
What we will do
We’ll meet at the agreed time at the meeting point on San José beach, in Níjar, in the heart of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. After a welcome from the team, we’ll put on our lifejackets and get ready for a brief theoretical introduction. We’ll spend the first 10 minutes on a crash course in paddling and environmental awareness to learn how to handle the kayak and understand the value of the protected area we’re about to visit.
We’ll climb into the transparent kayaks to set off on a very relaxed and leisurely paddle along the Almeria coastline. We’ll always paddle no more than 20 metres from the shore – the perfect distance for spotting the seabed through the kayak’s transparent hull, where we’ll learn to identify the reserve’s wildlife, such as octopuses, starfish and schools of fish. Depending on the wind conditions on the day, we’ll take one of the two routes designed by the guides: the Lava Route (San José – Cueva del Tabaco – Cala Higuera – Return) or the Cala Catedral Route (San José Bay – Piedra Gálvez – Castillo – Cala Catedral – Los Genoveses Beach) . During the trip, the instructors will make stops in the water to provide us with fascinating geological, biological and historical explanations about the park, always with the backing of a support boat.
We’ll stop for a refreshing swim halfway through the trip. We’ll enjoy a break of around 20 minutes to swim and snorkel using the goggles and snorkels provided by our guide. After exploring the seabed, we’ll take up our paddles again to complete the coastal tour, finally returning to the starting point at San José beach, where we’ll say goodbye to the team after a 2-hour trip in total.
