Full description

Swap your usual beach routine for a day of authentic seafaring tradition and witness traditional fishing in Murcia first-hand .

Climb aboard a motorised trimaran in San Pedro del Pinatar and enjoy a shared trip of up to 4 hours of pure maritime tourism. Visit the fish market to see the auctions, sail with an expert guide to the fishing grounds to observe the centuries-old techniques of the paranza, and savour the catch of the day with a tasting of tapas at a beach bar. A perfect and truly authentic way to connect with the maritime culture of the Mar Menor.

What we will do

We’ll arrive at the meeting point in San Pedro del Pinatar, on the shores of the Mar Menor, 15 minutes early . This gives us plenty of time to park easily, especially if we’re doing the activity during the summer months. There, we’ll be welcomed and introduced to the skipper and expert fishing guide who’ll be with us throughout the experience.

We’ll start the day with a guided walking tour of the fish market, located right next to the departure point. We’ll watch the traditional boats arrive in real time, learn how the fish are sorted by size, see how the batches are organised for auction, and discover the main seasonal commercial species. After this cultural immersion on land, we’ll head to the port to board one of the fleet’s motorised trimarans.

We’ll sail towards the fishing grounds, towing the fishing boat to meet the artisanal fisherman. Once in the fishing grounds, we’ll learn how the paranza and charamitas work—a centuries-old technique typical of the Mar Menor consisting of a maze of nets designed to keep the fish alive (such as sea bream, sea bass or prawns) until they’re hauled in. We’ll watch as the fisherman gets kitted out, boards the boat and hauls in the nets, whilst the guide tells us the history of the place and explains that we’re looking at the last active encañizada in the area.

Once the fishing is done, we’ll return to dry land after a total of four hours of adventure to take the catch to the beach bar, where we’ll enjoy a delicious tasting of fresh fish served as tapas, accompanied by a drink.
