Excursion to Areoso or Pedregoso and visit to the bateas of the Ría de Arousa

Do you really want to get to know the Rías Baixas?

This excursion from Illa de Arousa is a two for one. In the same experience you will get to know closely the mussel farms where mussels are cultivated and you will visit one of the two most fascinating islets in the area: Areoso (requesting a permit from the Xunta de Galicia beforehand) or Pedregoso, depending on availability. You will sail among landscapes that seem to be from another planet.

A short, flexible and very special experience to discover the life and natural beauty of the Ría de Arousa.

What we will do

The appointment will be at the meeting point, next to the beach of Espiñeiro de la Illa de Arousa, 15 minutes before the booked departure. There we will be met by the skipper who will accompany us to the chosen islet: Guidoiro Areoso or Guidoiro Pedregoso.

Once on board, we will receive a quick explanation of the safety rules and then we will set sail towards paradise: 10 minutes will be enough to reach our destination.

The Guidoiro Areoso islet, with its fine sandy beaches and clear waters, will captivate us. However, given the environmental protection measures, in order to access it we will need to request a free permit from the Xunta de Galicia in advance (which is not included in the booking of this activity).

The Guidoiro Pedregoso islet has nothing to envy to its big brother, and is a great alternative in August and September. As its name suggests, it has large rocky areas. However, there are also sandy areas, mainly concentrated in the north-east.

We will spend as much time as we want to walk and explore the surroundings of this hidden corner in the heart of the Ría de Arousa. Afterwards, we will embark to return to the island of Arousa.

But that's not all. During the outward or return trip, as agreed with the skipper, we will be able to take a 20-minute walk along the Ria de Arousa. We will get to know its emblematic rafts, while the skipper will tell us curiosities about the seafaring and shellfish tradition of the Rías Baixas.

The outward and return trips will last about 10 minutes each.

Who it is aimed at

The activity is suitable for all ages.

Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The boat is not adapted, so it is not possible to board in a wheelchair and access for people with motor disabilities is limited. If you need assistance to board the boat, you will need to contact the skipper beforehand. You will receive the contact details in the booking confirmation email.

Other information

Access to Areoso islet is available from April to October. IMPORTANT: in order to gain access you will have to request authorisation from the Xunta de Galicia ( which is not included in the booking of this activity) . The application is free of charge and is made by indicating the day of the visit and selecting the option "mooring with motor", at the following link: https: //areoso. xunta. gal/areoso/inicio. In high season it is usually necessary to apply for authorisation well in advance and the Xunta may apply greater restrictions.

Access to Pedregoso islet is available in August and September. No authorisation is required.

It is not possible to access any of the islands with pets.

The return time can be agreed with the skipper on the day of the activity. You can also decide with the skipper whether to do the trip along the estuary to see the rafts on the way out or on the way back from the islet.

You will sail aboard a glider like the one used by the local sailors. It is 5. 60 metres long and has an 80 hp engine. The boat has no seats.
