Full description
Did you know that the Serranía de Cuenca and the Alto Tajo are home to one of the clearest and darkest ‘Starlight’ skies in Europe?
Escape the daily grind on a 4-hour night-time adventure designed to let you explore the wilderness under the light of the cosmos. Accompanied by an expert guide, you’ll walk along an easy 5–6 km trail whilst listening to the sounds of nocturnal wildlife and learning how to navigate by the stars. You’ll discover constellations with the naked eye using a laser pointer and observe the moon, planets and nebulae through powerful telescopes in an environment free from light pollution.
What we will do
We’ll meet 10 minutes before the booking time at the meeting point, which, depending on the weather, could be in the Serranía de Cuenca or the Alto Tajo. There, our nature guide will meet us, welcome us, explain how the tour will work and prepare us to explore the natural environment as night falls.
We’ll set off on an easy 5–6 km walk . Along the way, we’ll make several stops to discuss the features of the landscape, learn about the biology of nocturnal wildlife, and take part in a fun stargazing workshop. Halfway along the route, we’ll stop for an al fresco dinner (with our own food) under the moonlight whilst enjoying the silence and tranquillity of the countryside.
In the second part of the evening, we’ll move on to the astronomy tour. With the help of a laser pointer, we’ll scan the night sky with the naked eye to identify the key constellations. Afterwards, we’ll look through powerful telescopes to observe the secrets of deep space, such as galaxies, star clusters and lunar craters.
After around four hours of activities, we’ll say our goodbyes with the satisfaction of having rediscovered the night sky in one of the most unspoilt spots on the Iberian Peninsula.
