Do you dare with the most emblematic and fun descent of northern Spain?
Enjoy the self-guided descent of the river Sella by canoe. Choose your section and enjoy between 2 and 5 hours of spectacular natural surroundings at your own pace. You'll discover the real summer party that takes place on its banks and you'll build a trip to suit you.
Organise your picnic and get ready for an unforgettable adventure in Asturias.
What we will do
The meeting point will be in Santianes, Ribadesella, about 15 minutes before the start of the adventure. An instructor will meet us to give us all the equipment and take us in a vehicle from the centre to the jetty at the selected starting point.
We will be able to choose between different sections, depending on the season, the technical level or our preferences:
- Standard descent: from Arriondas to Llovio, 16 km and duration of about 4 hours.
- Half descent: from Toraño to Llovio, 8 km and duration of about 2 hours.
- Minisella: from Llovio to Ribadesella. It is suitable for children under 6 years old, but it is conditioned by the tide.
Both the Arriondas-Llovio and Toraño-Llovio sections can be completed by continuing 4 km to Ribadesella if the tide is favourable.
At the jetty itself, the instructor will explain in detail how to handle the canoe, the correct paddling technique and the basic safety rules to navigate in a totally autonomous and carefree way.
With the first strokes, the fun begins! We will descend a river with a calm flow and suitable for all ages, we will enjoy a legendary adventure where we will set the pace ourselves, being able to stop on the shore to eat or rest in the different beach bars that liven up the journey. During the summer, the Sella becomes a real party!
At the end, we will be picked up at any of the established disembarkation points to return us to the base, where we can take a hot shower and change after an unforgettable experience.
The descent will last between 2 and 5 hours, depending on the pace and the chosen section.
Who it is aimed at
No experience is necessary.
A minimum age of 6 years old is recommended for the Arriondas-Llovio/Ribadesella and Toraño-Llovio/Ribadesella sections and 4 years old for the Llovio-Ribadesella section.
Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult; from 16 years of age onwards they can do the activity with the authorisation of a legal guardian.
The maximum total weight per canoe is 200 kg.
This experience is not recommended for pregnant women.
If there are participants with any kind of disability, it is necessary to contact the instructor beforehand so that he/she can assess the adaptation of the activity. You will receive the contact details in the booking confirmation email.

Other information
The experience is available from March until 1 November.
Important: the latest time for arrival and pick-up at the end point is 18: 00.
The canoes available are mainly 2 or 3-seater canoes; it may be necessary to pay a supplement of 5 euros to rent a single canoe.
The activity is dog-friendly, so you can also bring your pet.
At the tour organiser's premises there are changing rooms with showers and lockers.
You can add extra services such as wetsuit or picnic (drink, sandwich and some dessert) by contacting the rental manager directly. You will receive their contact details in the booking confirmation email.
Free parking is available at the meeting point. It is not possible to reach the area by public transport.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is strict. You get a full refund if you cancel within 15 days from the activity start date. Within 14 and 8 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
