Full description

Do you want to know what makes the Covadonga Lakes one of the most magical corners of Asturias?

In this experience of approximately 3 and a half hours, you will travel through glacial lakes, valleys, viewpoints and pastoral areas while you discover the wildlife, natural history and pastoral culture that shaped this unique landscape. An adventure where nature surprises you even before you get out of the car.

What we will do

We will meet 10 minutes before the agreed time in Cangas de Onís, Asturias, where our guides will pick us up with the authorised vehicles to go up to the Covadonga Lakes. During the ascent, with an ascent of more than 1000 metres, we will learn about the National Park and how this glacial landscape was formed.

Our first stop will be Lake Enol, a spectacular setting where we will understand how the glaciers shaped the terrain. There, the Cornión massif will appear in front of us and we will understand why this place is one of the most emblematic in Asturias. We will then continue to Ercina Lake, where we will take a short interpretative walk to learn about the formation of the lakes and take the best photos.

We will continue to the Vega de Enol, a glacial valley covered with pastures where cattle graze freely. There we will talk about the life of the shepherds, the production of Gamoneu del Puerto cheese, and the importance of these traditional practices for the conservation of birds such as the griffon vulture and the bearded vulture.

We will also make a stop at the Mirador de la Reina viewpoint, from where we will see the eastern Asturian coast and the valleys of Cangas. Thanks to the binoculars and telescopes provided, we will try to observe birds of prey and we will learn about the project for the reintroduction of the bearded vulture in the Picos de Europa.

We will finish the tour returning to Cangas de Onís while we continue enjoying the landscape and commenting on what we have learnt.

The total duration of the experience is approximately 3 hours and a half.
