Full description
If you didn't know whether to choose between a 4x4 route or a walk around the lakes. .. this adventure offers you both options on a plate.
Get on the 4x4 to climb up through forests, historic sheepfolds and viewpoints, and then walk alongside the Enol, Ercina and Bricial, discovering their glacial origins and history.
A 4-hour guided experience that combines adventure, landscape and the most authentic essence of the Picos de Europa.
What we will do
We will meet 10 minutes before the agreed time at the Dolmen and Chapel of Santa Cruz, in Cangas de Onís, where the guide will meet us with the 4x4 vehicles. From there we will start the ascent to the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park, passing through Covadonga, the Mirador de la Reina viewpoint and forests and meadows where cattle graze freely.
During the ascent we will see curiosities such as the Elephant's Trunk, a very recognisable rock formation that seems to draw the silhouette of a trunk carved by nature. We will also pass by several traditional sheepfolds, old shepherd's huts where Gamoneu and other mountain cheeses were made.
Once in the high area, we will reach Enol Lake, where the walking part of the route begins. During about 2 hours of gentle hiking, we will walk through the Vega de Enol, the Ermita del Buen Pastor and some historical sheepfolds, discovering the flora, fauna and the glacial origin of these landscapes . We will then visit the Mirador del Rey viewpoint and the spectacular Entrelagos viewpoint, with simultaneous views of Enol and Ercina.
We will continue on to Lake Bricial, a doline that only fills up during the thawing season, and we will finish at Lake Ercina, where we can visit the area of the old Buferrera or the Pedro Pidal Interpretation Centre.
Finally, we will get back in the 4x4 to return to the starting point, completing a 4-hour experience that combines mountain, history and some of the most emblematic landscapes of the Picos de Europa.
