Full description
Did you know that you don't have to go to Mars to set foot on volcanic soil? All you need is a 4x4 and a desire to explore.
Get into an off-road vehicle for a 4-hour tour of the most picturesque spots along the coast, from the Mesa Roldán lighthouse to the spectacular Los Escullos reserve. A guided adventure that combines geology, mining history and the purest volcanic essence of Cabo de Gata in Almeria.
What we will do
We will meet 15 minutes before the agreed time at the Port of Carboneras, Almeria. There we will be met by our guide, who will put us in explorer mode while he tells us what awaits us and clears up any doubts before starting this adventure through the most untamed corner of the peninsula.
We will start our adventure in a 4x4 vehicle, heading towards the Mesa Roldán lighthouse, leaving the asphalt behind and heading onto dirt tracks that will give us our first great panoramic view of the Playa de los Muertos. We will have a close look at the old mineral loading bay of Agua Amarga, a historical relic that contrasts with the virgin beauty of the coves, while the guide will tell us stories of miners and pirates that once roamed these coasts.
We will pass through landscapes that look like something out of another planet, crossing solidified lava slopes and coastal steppe valleys towards Las Negras and El Playazo de Rodalquilar. Every hour or so, we will stop for about 15 minutes so that we can get out of the vehicle, feel the sea breeze and explore on foot corners where time seems to have stood still. We will also visit the Casa de los Volcanes, where we will discover the geological secrets that shaped these cliffs.
We will continue our ascent to the Mirador de la Amatista, a natural balcony where the blue of the sea merges with the ochre of the mountains, before passing through the picturesque Isleta del Moro. Finally, we will arrive at Los Escullos, where we will enjoy the impressive shapes of the fossil dunes in front of the Loma Pelada marine reserve. Finally, we will see a 20-minute didactic exhibition about the Park that will put the finishing touch to our journey through this millenary ecosystem.
The route will end back at the starting point after visiting the most spectacular enclaves of this volcanic paradise. In total, it will be about 4 hours of pure exploration, learning and unforgettable landscapes in the most untamed corner of the peninsula.
