Did you know that in winter Santoña becomes an "international airport" for thousands of birds?
On this private weekend you will travel through marshes, estuaries and open coast with an expert guide to observe unique species, sail by boat and enjoy an all-inclusive rural accommodation.
An unforgettable experience for bird lovers!
What we will do
You will be welcomed on Friday afternoon at your rural accommodation in the Santoña area (check-in from 15: 00 h) . There you will meet your guide, review the plan for the weekend and, after settling in, you will make a first contact with the marshes, a perfect way to start spotting the first birds of the season. This area is a bird lover's dream: in winter up to 100 different species can be seen, as birds from all along the north coast descend to the Cantabrian coast to spend the cold months.
Saturday will start with a hearty breakfast before heading into the Marismas de Santoña, Victoria and Joyel Nature Reserve, one of the best places in Europe to see wintering birds. You'll visit different observation points - marshes, estuaries, mudflats and open coastal areas - equipped with spotting scopes to identify species that only appear here during the cold months: serins, red-necked grebes, hawksbills, spectacled scoters, common eiders and many more. After lunch and a short break, we will continue the afternoon touring other sites where rare and land-based seabirds, such as gannets, auks and guillemots, tend to appear.
Sunday will be dedicated to one of the most special parts of the trip: a two and a half hour boat trip through the marshes . You will sail through channels and shallow waters that will allow you to get close to species that can be seen from a great distance from land, ideal for observation and photography. On disembarking, you will take a final interpretative tour of the area before returning to your accommodation for the final meal.
After collecting your luggage, you will conclude an exclusive weekend in one of the most privileged places in the north of Spain to enjoy wintering birds at their best.

It is ideal for couples, families with children from 8 years old, or groups of friends.
Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The activity is not suitable for people with reduced mobility and wheelchair users.

The experience starts on Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday at noon.
Check-in is from 15: 00 h and check-out is at 11: 00 h. The meeting with the guide at the hotel will be at 16: 00.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is very strict. You get a full refund if you cancel within 31 days from the activity start date. Within 30 and 15 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
