Birds of prey observation and photography experience in Ávila

Can you imagine photographing an imperial eagle from so close that you can hear its wings flapping?

In this experience of up to 4 hours you will go into a photographic hide in the middle of nature in Ávila, where you will be able to observe and capture birds of prey such as kites, vultures, goshawks or eaglets from a hide designed to go unnoticed. A quiet and perfect session for wildlife photography lovers.

What we will do

We will meet 10 minutes before the agreed time in the area of La Moraña, Ávila, where the guide will welcome us to give us all the necessary indications before we head to the "hide", a small hide designed for observing and photographing birds without being seen. There he will explain the basic rules - do not approach the glass, keep your mobile phone on silent and do not go out without authorisation - to create the best observation conditions and encourage the birds of prey to approach without feeling disturbed.

Then, we will get into the vehicle to drive to the hide, located in the municipality of El Oso, in an environment of pine forest and cultivated areas that attracts numerous birds of prey throughout the year.

On arrival, the guide will accompany us to the hide, help us to settle in and answer any questions before leaving. The hide is a 3 x 2 metre hut, with a spy glass front window, which will allow us to observe and photograph the wildlife without being seen or altering their natural behaviour. Once inside, the most exciting part of the experience begins: waiting in silence for the birds of prey to appear.

During the session we will be able to photograph species such as the imperial eagle, the red kite, the black kite, the buzzard, the marsh harrier, as well as others that visit the area depending on the season: black vulture, griffon vulture, goshawk, common kestrel, lesser kestrel or loggerhead shrike, among others. The distant backgrounds and perches located at different distances will allow us to achieve clean framing and high quality photographs, even in flight.

We will stay in the hide for a maximum of 4 hours, an ideal time to enjoy the different moments of activity of the birds of prey and obtain memorable images. At the end, the guide will return to accompany us back to the meeting point.

Who it is aimed at

This experience is designed for all nature and photography lovers, both beginners and more advanced photographers.

Suitable for children over 8 years old. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Thanks to the vehicle access and the stable hide, people with reduced mobility and wheelchair users can participate.

The activity is available all year round in the morning and afternoon. It is confirmed with 1 participant.

Groups are maximum 4 people.

Parking is available at the meeting point.

The experience is not guided, but you can optionally add a wildlife guide for a supplement of 50 €.

The organisers will send you all the detailed information about the activity 48 hours before the booked date.

It is not recommended to come with pets, unless they are very calm and quiet. In this case, you should consult the organisers beforehand.

The photographic observatory is located in El Oso, Ávila, 120 km from Madrid.
