Full description

Do you want to get lost in one of those places that don't appear in the guidebooks, but leave you open-mouthed?

On this 4-hour route you will travel through the Ponga Natural Park, a wild and authentic territory where gorges, fauna, mountain villages and the natural history of one of the most remote corners of Asturias come together. A place where nature rules and humans can only keep up with it.

What we will do

We will meet 10 minutes before the agreed time in Cangas de Onís, where our guides will pick us up to go to the Ponga Natural Park, one of the wildest and least travelled corners of Asturias. During the transfer - more than half an hour crossing mountain roads - we will discover the geological and cultural history of the Beyos Gorge, the limestone gorge that for centuries has connected these valleys with the Castilian plateau.

Our route will take us through some of the most spectacular landscapes of the park, which has been declared a Biosphere Reserve, stopping at points where it is common to see wildlife. With the help of the binoculars and telescopes provided, we will try to spot griffon vultures, golden eagles, short-toed eagles and even, if we are lucky, bearded vultures. We will also get to know the forest birds that inhabit these slopes and that have adapted very well to the steep terrain.

In addition to the fauna, we will talk about the villages perched in the mountains, the traditional way of life, the relationship with the river Sella and how the inhabitants have been able to coexist with such a remote territory. In some sections we will take short walks, of short duration, to access natural viewpoints or particularly interesting corners.

Along the route we will discover the history, anthropology and ecological value of this unique area, always in a comfortable, safe environment and accompanied by an expert guide.

After about 4 hours of walking, we will return to Cangas de Onís, closing an experience that combines nature, culture and fauna in one of the least known treasures of the Picos de Europa.
