Full description

Fancy combining the thrill of mushroom hunting with an outdoor dining experience?

On this 4-hour mushroom-hunting tour, we’ll venture into the woods of the Serranía de Cuenca, Alto Tajo or the Sierra de Albarracín, accompanied by a qualified mycologist in search of seasonal species, and we’ll enjoy a cookery workshop and a delicious country lunch featuring local produce.

What we will do

We’ll meet 10 minutes before the booked time at the meeting point, which, depending on the weather , could be in the Serranía de Cuenca, Alto Tajo or the Sierra de Albarracín. There, we’ll be welcomed by our guide, who is qualified by the European Institute of Mycology. They’ll hand out the baskets and foraging tools and give us a brief introduction to the biology of fungi and how to respect the woodland environment.

We’ll head into the forest for a guided walk, during which we’ll learn how to find and identify species according to the time of year: morels, chanterelles or hedgehog mushrooms in spring, and boletes, milk caps or trumpet mushrooms in autumn. We’ll collect specimens whilst the guide teaches us how to distinguish edible varieties from poisonous ones.

After the walk, we’ll head to a country cottage to share our findings and identify everything we’ve collected. There, we’ll take part in a workshop where we’ll learn how to clean, preserve and cook the mushrooms properly. To round off the day in style, we’ll enjoy a meal in the countryside featuring local cured meats, cheese, bread, olive oils and dishes made with the mushrooms we’ve gathered.

The activity will conclude after around 4 hours of learning and culinary delights.
