Kayak tour to Areoso Islet in the Ría de Arousa

An uninhabited islet, clear waters and the freedom to paddle to it on your own.

This kayak route to Areoso islet is a small adventure in the middle of the Arousa estuary. All you need to do is apply in advance for a permit from the Xunta de Galicia to experience a perfect plan. You will explore one of the most special corners of the Rías Baixas, at your own pace and in direct contact with nature. You will need to paddle for about 25 minutes to reach your destination.

Before you, a protected environment that invites you to explore, rest and disconnect completely. In total you will have 5 hours to enjoy the Ría de Arousa to the maximum.

What we will do

The appointment will be at the meeting point, next to the beach of Espiñeiro de la Illa de Arousa, 15 minutes before the booked departure. There we will be met by the person in charge of the activity, who will hand over the material and give us the necessary instructions to follow the route to Areoso islet.

Previously, we will have requested authorisation from the Xunta de Galicia for the non-motorised mooring on the island (which is not included in the activity booking). Since, given the environmental protection measures, access is controlled.

If it is our first time, the guide will explain how to handle the kayak and the main safety rules. He will also tell us how to contact him if we need help, as he can pick us up at any time in an auxiliary boat .

And we will be ready to row in autonomy: heading for the heart of the Ría de Arousa. In about 25 minutes we will cover the 1.5 km that separate us from our destination. The Guidoiro Areoso islet is a real surprise hidden in the heart of the Rías Baixas, with its fine sandy beaches and clear waters.

Once there, we will spend up to 4 hours exploring the small islet, observing its flora and fauna or relaxing sunbathing on the beach. Afterwards, we will return following the same route to the Illa de Arousa, which will take about 25 minutes.

The outward and return crossings will take about 25 minutes each (in total we will paddle 3 km). The total duration of the activity will be 5 hours.

Who it is aimed at

The activity is suitable for all ages from 3 years old.

Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Children between 3 and 8 years old will be in a kayak between two adults.

The activity is not suitable for people with motor disabilities.

Other information

The excursion is available from May to October.

IMPORTANT: to gain access you will have to request authorisation from the Xunta de Galicia ( which is not included in the booking of this activity). The application is free of charge and is made by indicating the day of the visit and selecting the option "non-motorised mooring", at the following link: https://areoso.xunta.gal/areoso/inicio. In high season it is usually necessary to request authorisation well in advance.

The activity is done autonomously: the guide will not accompany you, but will only give you all the necessary indications to follow the route before setting off. However, you will be able to contact him at any time to solve any problem and there will be an auxiliary boat at your disposal.

The kayaks available can be used individually, in pairs or with a child between 3 and 8 years old as a third passenger. If you wish, it is possible to do the same activity on a paddle surf board.

There is an area on the organiser's property where it is possible to change, but there are no changing rooms or showers as such and it is not possible to leave personal belongings. A waterproof bag will be given to each participant.

It is not possible to access the islet with pets.
