2-hour horse ride through the Tabernas Desert

Have you always dreamt of starring in a Western?

Saddle up and ride through the iconic Tabernas Desert in Almería on a 1. 5-hour horse ride suitable for all levels. Guided by an expert instructor, you’ll ride past film sets, discover the natural beauty of this unique landscape and enjoy the experience of riding through ‘the Wild West’.

What we will do

We’ll arrive at the ranch in Tabernas, Almería, about 15 minutes early. There, we’ll be met by the expert riding instructor, who’ll guide us throughout the experience. If we’d like to see how the horses are prepared, we can arrange with him to arrive even earlier.

After signing the activity paperwork, we’ll be given our kit (a helmet is compulsory and body protection is optional) and assigned a horse that will become our best friend for the next two hours. The instructor will give us full instructions on how to handle the horse correctly and respectfully, and we’ll have time in an enclosed arena to build confidence and get used to riding before setting off into the desert.

Once the whole group is ready, we’ll set off on a leisurely guided ride lasting approximately one and a half hours, suitable for all levels. We’ll ride at a steady pace through a scene straight out of a film – and never has that been more apt! Although we won’t be visiting the famous Western-style villages, the guide will explain the vital role the Tabernas Desert has played in the history of cinema.

During the interpretative stops, we’ll be able to take photos and learn about the geological richness of the area, as well as the flora and fauna that have adapted to living in extreme conditions. After about 6 km of enjoying the unrivalled experience of riding through the desert, we’ll return to the ranch.

The experience will last a total of 2 hours.

Who it is aimed at

You don’t need any experience of horse riding, but you do need to be reasonably fit.

Participants must be aged between 14 and 70.

Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult or have the authorisation of a legal guardian.

The maximum weight is 90 kg. VERY IMPORTANT: you must inform the ranch via WhatsApp of the weight and height of all participants. You will receive the contact details in the booking confirmation email.

This experience is not suitable for pregnant women.

You cannot take part if you have allergies to animals, back problems, mobility issues, or visual or hearing impairments.

Tours run all year round and each trip is confirmed once a minimum group of 3 participants has been reached.

IMPORTANT: The guide will send you directions to the ranch via WhatsApp to ensure you arrive without any problems. It is very important that you follow their instructions to the letter.

Any accompanying guests who are not taking part in the experience may wait at the ranch.

Petsare not permitted on the tour , nor are they allowed outside the ranch, as there are other animals on the premises.

There is free parking for participants at the ranch. Although it doesn’t happen very often, it is possible to reach the centre of Tabernas by bus from Almería and then walk for about 20 minutes from there.
