Horse riding trail through the Montgrí and along Gola del Ter beach in L'Estartit

Fighting for a spot on the beach is overrated when you can discover the tranquillity of Platja de la Gola del Ter and the Montgrí wetlands on a relaxing horse ride.

Head to L’Estartit to enjoy a 1-hour-and-20-minute horse ride that links the flat trails of the Montgrí Natural Park with the wildest charm of the coast. Accompanied by a qualified guide, you’ll ride alongside lagoons and spot waterbirds until you reach an unspoilt landscape of dunes and reed beds, right where the River Ter meets the Mediterranean Sea.

What we will do

We’ll meet 10 minutes before the agreed time at the meeting point in L’Estartit, Girona. On arrival at the stables, the team will welcome us and provide us with helmets. With the horses already saddled and ready, we’ll mount up straight away, ready to leave the tarmac behind and immerse ourselves in nature.

We’ll set off following the guide, who’ll accompany us on horseback throughout the entire route. The route runs along farm tracks and flat, compacted earth, with no stones or steep gradients, making the ride an ideal experience for relaxing and connecting deeply with the horse. As we ride at a leisurely pace, the instructor will share practical tips along the way: how to position your feet correctly in the stirrups, the proper way to hold the reins, and how to maintain good posture to make the most of the ride.

Little by little, we’ll venture deeper into the wetland ecosystem of the Montgrí Natural Park, approaching spots such as the Bassa del Fra Ramón, where it’s very common to spot various birds in the wild. But the real surprise will come when the path leads us to Platja de la Gola del Ter. There, the landscape opens up to reveal the imposing mouth of the River Ter as it flows into the Mediterranean Sea. We’ll ride through this unspoilt and peaceful setting, surrounded by protective dunes and reed beds, feeling the contrast of the fine sand and gravel beneath the horse’s hooves whilst the sea breeze blows right in our faces. (The exact route will always be adapted to the conditions on the day and the group’s pace) .

Once this spectacular circuit is complete, we’ll return to the starting point. There, we’ll dismount and say goodbye to our equine companions after sharing an experience lasting a total of 1 hour and 20 minutes, taking with us as a memento one of the most beautiful views of the Girona coastline.

Who it is aimed at

This activity is suitable for children aged 7 and over (please let us know in advance if children under 10 are taking part) .

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

To take part, participants must weigh no more than 80 kg.

For safety reasons, the activity is not suitable for pregnant women.

People in wheelchairs or with reduced mobility may take part subject to prior consultation with the centre to assess accessibility and adapt the service accordingly.

The experience is of an easy level and suitable as a first horse-riding excursion; groups are organised separately according to the riders’ level and experience.

Other information

The experience takes place all year round and is confirmed once the minimum number of 2 participants has been reached.

Tours usually run in morning (10. 30 am) and afternoon (3. 30 pm) sessions, though these may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and the season.

Free parking is available on site. The meeting point is accessible by public transport (by coach) .

Pets are not permitted on the tour, although they may wait, kept on a lead, in the shade or in the vehicle within the grounds.
