Full description
To really understand "liquid gold", you have to come to Jaén.
Visit a family-run olive oil mill in the region of La Loma, in Jaén. Get to know both the old facilities from 1927 and the current modern production area and discover the whole process from the reception of the olives to the EVOO you taste in the bottle.
The visit will end with a guided tasting of 3 early harvest oils in which you will learn to distinguish aromas like a professional.
What we will do
The appointment will be 10 minutes before the reservation time in Begíjar, very close to Baeza. There we will be welcomed by an expert guide in olive oil tourism, one of the owners of this family-run olive oil mill, who will accompany us throughout the visit.
We will start with an introduction to the world of olive oil in order to place ourselves in the context of Jaén as the main olive-growing area of the peninsula, before entering the facilities.
Afterwards, we will visit the reception yards, the olive cleaning and classification area and we will get to know the old oil mill, with its presses, capachos and traditional cellar, to understand how the oil was produced in the past. But it doesn't end here. We will also visit the modern mill, where we will see the process step by step, from the olives to the final EVOO.
We will close the visit with a guided tasting of 3 extra virgin olive oils from the house's early harvest: we will learn to identify nuances and differences between varieties like true professionals. The tasting will include:
- the authentic picual from Jaén, with fresh notes of freshly cut grass and tomato plants;
- the frantoio, with hints of dried fruit and apple;
- and changlot real, with hints of artichoke and aromatic herbs.
The experience will last between 1. 5 and 2 hours.
Who it is aimed at
The experience is suitable for everyone.
The olive oil mill is accessible for wheelchair users and people with mobility disabilities.
