Full description

Enter the heart of Jaén, the kingdom of olive oil production on the peninsula.

Visit a family oil mill in the region of La Loma and discover how EVOO is born. You will follow the path of the olive until it becomes "liquid gold" and finish with a guided tasting of 3 early olive oils.

Typical tapas and a drink will put the perfect finishing touch to the experience. Are you going to be left with the desire to wash down the dish?

What we will do

The appointment will be 10 minutes before the reservation time in Begíjar, very close to Baeza. We will be met by one of the owners, an expert in olive oil tourism, who will accompany us throughout the tour and place us in the context of Jaén as a great olive oil capital.

To begin with, we will attend an introduction to the world of EVOO and we will visit the reception yards and the area where the olives are cleaned and classified.

Afterwards, we will go to the old oil mill (from 1927! ), a piece of history with its presses, capachos and the traditional cellar. It will be the best way to understand how the oil was made "in the old days". Then we will enter the modern facilities to see the actual process step by step, from the olive to the bottling of the extra virgin olive oil.

We will close the experience with a guided tasting of 3 early harvest EVOOs:

  • the authentic picual from Jaén, with fresh notes of freshly cut grass and tomato plants;
  • the frantoio, with hints of dried fruit and apple;
  • and the royal changlot, with hints of artichoke and aromatic herbs.

We will learn how to taste them like professionals, identifying the nuances and characteristics of each one. The tasting will be accompanied by a selection of typical tapas, which will include such delicacies as seasoned olives, piquitos de ochío, ham and cheese in oil, salmorejo with oil and shavings of ham, lomo de orza. .. . Each person will be able to choose a drink between olive beer, Jaén wine, soft drink or water.

The visit with tasting will last approximately 2 hours.

The olive oil mill is accessible for wheelchair users and people with mobility disabilities.
