Full description
Did you know that Mount Teide is one of the best places in the world to see the universe without needing an astronaut’s suit?
Escape the daily grind on a 2½-hour night-time walk in Teide National Park, Tenerife. Accompanied by a guide trained in astrophysics, you’ll walk along an easy, flat trail of around 3 km at an altitude of 2, 100 metres whilst discovering the constellations with a laser pointer and listening to fascinating stories about the mythology of the stars. What’s more, you’ll take home a souvenir photo to capture a unique night against the backdrop of the volcano.
What we will do
We’ll meet about 15 minutes before the agreed time at the meeting point in La Orotava, Tenerife. There, we’ll be met by our guide – an astrophysicist and certified tour guide – who’ll welcome us and give us a brief explanatory briefing on the tour itinerary, the park’s natural surroundings at an altitude of 2, 100 metres, and the first stars that will begin to appear after sunset.
We’ll set off on a gentle walk of about 3 km across flat, easy-going terrain, moving away from any trace of artificial light. As the night progresses, we’ll stop to gaze at the night sky whilst the guide points out the main constellations using a laser pointer. We’ll learn the basics of astronomy, discover fascinating mythological stories about the stars and enjoy the silhouette of Mount Teide before us.
During the experience, we’ll have a souvenir photo taken of us surrounded by this unique setting, which will later be sent to us digitally. After around two and a half hours of walking and stargazing with the naked eye, we’ll say our goodbyes, satisfied to have experienced a Tenerife night from a different perspective.
