Full description
Tired of lying on your towel watching the hours tick by from the shore? Why not dive into a real-life aquarium of volcanic origin instead?
Change your perspective, hop on board in San Pedro del Pinatar and set sail for the Mar Mayor to discover the region’s spectacular biodiversity. The Isla Grosa Marine Reserve awaits you with its striking rocky seabed, home to nearly 80% of the species found along the coast. Put on your fins, snorkel and mask to enjoy a 40-minute guided snorkelling session with an expert instructor as part of a 4-hour adventure .
What we will do
We’ll arrive at the meeting point in San Pedro del Pinatar, on the shores of the Mar Menor, 15 minutes early . This gives us plenty of time to park comfortably, especially if we’re doing the activity during the summer months. We’ll be welcomed there and, once the group has gathered, we’ll board the boat and get ready to set off on our shared journey towards the Mar Mayor.
We’ll enjoy a pleasant boat trip lasting approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, taking in the Murcian coastline until we reach the Isla Grosa Marine Reserve. Upon arrival at this protected area, the guides will provide us with all the necessary equipment, including fins, a wetsuit, goggles and a snorkel, as well as giving us a clear explanation of how the activity will unfold. The instructor will enter the water first to check the sea currents and will ask if we’d prefer to use a buoyancy aid before starting the dive.
We will dive in alongside the guide to enjoy around 40 minutes of snorkelling, exploring the rocky seabed and the dense beds of Posidonia oceanica. Thanks to the high biodiversity of the volcanic reserve, we will easily spot groupers, octopuses, starfish, sea bass, white seabream and large schools of fish swimming near the surface. At the end of the guided tour, we’ll have 10 minutes of free swimming to swim at our leisure and cool off before returning to the boat’s deck.
We’ll set off on the return journey, sailing for another hour and a quarter, making the most of the trip to chat with the other participants. This brings to a close an exciting 4-hour maritime experience .
