We can’t guarantee you’ll find a pirate’s treasure at the Torre de Sant Joan, but the thrill of paddling through a landscape straight out of a film is guaranteed.
Enjoy a shared kayaking adventure lasting a total of 4 hours through the Bay of Alfacs in Tarragona. Accompanied by qualified guides, you’ll paddle through the calm waters of the Ebro Delta, discovering traditional mussel beds until you reach this iconic medieval fortress rising from the sea. A gentle, visually stunning adventure, perfect for beginners or families looking to escape the daily grind without too much effort.
What we will do
We’ll meet at the exact time at the meeting point in Amposta, Tarragona. There , we’ll be welcomed by the event organisers before heading down to the beautiful bay shore to start soaking up the sense of total tranquillity that characterises this natural setting.
We’ll be provided with all the necessary technical equipment by our guides, who’ll hand out paddles, ergonomic back supports and life jackets (which must be worn at all times) . We’ll also be given one waterproof bag per boat. Afterwards, we’ll attend a brief technical briefing on basic paddling techniques and safety, and settle into our kayaks.
We’ll set off straight away to begin a fascinating group journey , paddling through the vast expanse of the Bay of Alfacs, very close to Poble Nou del Delta. We’ll glide along at a very leisurely pace across a mirror-like expanse of calm sea, ideal for skirting the traditional mussel beds and spotting the local birds, until we reach the spectacular Torre de Sant Joan, a medieval fortification rising from the middle of the sea, which will provide us with a unique photo opportunity.
We’ll then leisurely make our way back to the disembarkation point with a great sense of freedom, bringing our kayaking trip to an end after approximately two and a half hours – making for a total of four hours’ experience, including the initial preparations and the journey itself. Once back on dry land, you can round off the day in style by enjoying a delicious tasting of local mussels (optional) before we say our goodbyes with a big smile.
Who it is aimed at
Suitable for beginners, families with children and groups looking for a gentle, scenic route. No previous experience or high level of fitness is required.
The minimum age to take part is 2 years (children must always be accompanied by an adult) .
To paddle a single kayak independently , you must be at least 16 years old.
You do not need to know how to swim, as the activity is very safe and you will be wearing a life jacket at all times.
The maximum weight limit per person is 120 kg.
Pregnant women may take part at their own risk.
This experience is suitable for people in wheelchairs or with reduced mobility, provided they are able to paddle independently; the technical team will be happy to help you get into the kayak (just remember to let us know in advance when you book) .
Pets are allowed. Please note that the centre does not provide life jackets for animals, and those weighing over 30 kg will be required to pay an additional €5 for a supplementary place .

The tour is a shared tour in groups of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 180 participants.
Free parking is available on site . We do not recommend travelling by public transport.
As this is an unspoilt, open natural bay setting, the boarding point does not have changing rooms, showers or lockers for storing valuables.
The mussel tasting is an optional extra, subject to seasonal availability, which you can arrange with the organisers.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is last minute. You get a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours from the activity start. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
