Guided kayak route around the 8 sea caves of Es Canutells in Menorca

Who said that to see ancient monuments you have to go to a museum?

Enter an imposing rock grotto to contemplate a 5-metre stalactite patiently sculpted by the sea, and enjoy a 3-hour guided tour in Es Canutells . An ideal dynamic plan for ages 7 and up. Together with an expert guide, you will paddle under 50-metre cliffs, conquer 8 hidden caves with torch in hand and stop to snorkel in unreal blue waters.

What we will do

We will meet 25 minutes before departure at our meeting point on the beach of Es Canutells, Menorca, to make the preliminary preparations. There we will meet our guide, who will teach us the basic paddling technique and essential safety instructions. Once ready, we will pick up our complete equipment: a double self-bailing kayak, the paddle, the life jacket and a watertight container to protect our belongings before launching into the sea.

We will start paddling along imposing 50-metre cliffs on a totally wild and uninhabited stretch of coastline. After a few minutes we will be in front of the Bufador Cave and we will continue towards the majestic Ses Atxes Cave, where we will contemplate a 5-metre-high stalactite. We will pass by the Cueva de los Lamentos and the Entrada Blanca, marvelling at the turquoise reflections of the sandy bottom while we improve our skills with the shovel.

The most exciting moment will come as we enter the deepest and most intense caves. We will follow the guide into La Catedral and the Cueva de las Tres Cámaras, where we will turn on our torches because it is pitch dark in there. We will also test our agility in the Cueva de la Raja (or Dragon's Tail), a cave so narrow that we will have to enter from the front and exit backwards, guaranteeing adventure in equal parts.

We will make a 30 minute stop to snorkel (equipment not included) at s'Enderrossall de Binicalaf, an impressive rockfall that has created fascinating stone corridors at water level. We will dive into crystal clear waters to relax, swim and observe the marine biodiversity in deep areas. After refreshing ourselves and having a small snack, we will paddle our way back to Es Canutells beach, completing 3 hours of pure exploration.

Who it is aimed at

This shared group experience is suitable for beginners, although adequate fitness is required to be able to paddle actively.

The minimum age to participate is 7 years old. Children of this age can travel free of charge in the middle seat as the third occupant of the double kayak.

Children under 14 years of age must always be accompanied by an adult.

It is essential to know how to swim.

For reasons of safety and stability of the kayak, the maximum weight per person is 100 kg and the maximum permitted height is 1. 95m.

Pregnant women require express authorisation from their doctor to take part in the activity.

It is not suitable for wheelchair users and is not recommended for people with reduced mobility.

Other information

The experience is available from Monday to Sunday with daily departures at 10: 00 am and 4: 00 pm.

The organisers have a maximum of 9 double kayaks per group.

Free parking is available on the street of the meeting point. It is not recommended to try to get there by public transport.

There are no showers or private changing rooms on the premises.

Pets are allowed as long as the animal is used to the water, stays calm in the kayak and does not disturb the navigation (advance notice is compulsory) .

Recommended clothing
