Full description
Forget the usual routes and set off on a wild and fun canoe trip just seven kilometres from the centre of Oviedo.
Enjoy a thrilling 3-hour shared canoe trip down the spectacular River Nalón, starting in the village of Las Caldas. You’ll alternate between stretches of calm water surrounded by lush riverside forests and incredible birdlife, and six thrilling Grade II mini-rapids full of waves, slides and eddies. You’ll be paddling at all times under the supervision of an expert instructor, stop halfway to go for a swim or have a light snack, and your return transfer to the starting point is included.
What we will do
We’ll meet at the exact time at the meeting point in Las Caldas, Oviedo. There , we’ll be kitted out with paddles and life jackets, and we’ll each be given a waterproof container per canoe to protect our belongings (mobile phone, sun cream or towel) from the water. With all our kit ready, we’ll take part in an informative introductory talk led by our instructor, who’ll teach us how to handle the canoe and go over the safety rules. Before starting the official descent, we’ll do a brief practice session on the water to make sure we’ve got the paddling technique down and have no doubts.
We’ll begin our descent down the River Nalón on an exciting 6-kilometre group trip linking Las Caldas with the village of Trubia. During the 2 hours we’ll spend on the water, the instructor will guide us through the best sections, alternating between very calm and relaxing stretches – perfect for enjoying the wild countryside and spotting birds – and lively sections featuring waves, water slides and around six Grade II mini-rapids that will splash us all over. Halfway through the route, we’ll stop on the bank to have a swim, take some amazing photos and recharge our batteries with the water and chocolate bar provided as part of the package.
We’ll reach the finish line in Trubia, where a minibus will pick us up to take us back to the starting point after a total experience lasting around 3 hours. Once there, we’ll have access to the centre’s showers and changing rooms, and we’ll wrap up the activity, ready to enjoy the rest of the day.
