Full description
If you thought exploring the north of Tenerife was just a matter of strolling along the seafront with an ice cream in your hand, get ready to get a taste of the Canary Islands.
Accompanied by a professional guide, you’ll set off from Puerto de la Cruz to complete a 66-kilometre journey in a 1- to 4-seater buggy. You’ll travel along the coast, discover the secrets of a genuine banana plantation, climb to an altitude of 800 metres through pine forests on an off-road stretch, and admire the Orotava Valley from above.
What we will do
We’ll meet 30 minutes before departure at the meeting point in Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Our guide will be there to welcome us and get us ready. We’ll have a briefing on how to drive the vehicle and the safety guidelines; driving licences will be checked, and then we’ll be kitted out with off-road goggles and windproof jackets. Once everything’s ready and we’re settled in our seats, we’ll start the engines.
We’ll set off on a circular route of around 66 kilometres towards the coast, feeling the Atlantic breeze and hearing the roar of the buggy on the tarmac. Our first stop will be at an authentic Canary Island banana plantation, where we’ll stop for 5 to 10 minutes to walk amongst the banana trees, learn first-hand about the tradition of this island crop and take photos amongst the vegetation.
We’ll set off again, leaving the coast behind us and beginning the climb along country lanes. We’ll ascend to 800 metres above sea level, where the off-road section begins: about 20 minutes’ drive along dirt tracks surrounded by the dense Canary Island pine forest. In this setting, we’ll stop along the way to rest, stretch our legs and enjoy a light snack.
With our batteries recharged, we’ll get back behind the wheel and rejoin the road at the higher elevation. At an altitude of around 522 metres, we’ll stop at a panoramic viewpoint to take in a sweeping view of the Orotava Valley and the coastline of Puerto de la Cruz silhouetted against the ocean.
We’ll tackle the descent as we head back towards the centre, completing the final bends of the route before switching off the engines.
The activity will last a total of 3 hours on the road.
