Full description
Do you prefer your feet to follow the path or your wheels to lead the adventure?
Enjoy a full 9-hour day that combines a guided 4x4 route from Cangas de Onís with the iconic hiking of the Cares Route. You will cross deep gorges and river valleys in the heart of the Picos de Europa, discovering landscapes that only an off-road vehicle can reach.
Let the wildest nature of Asturias take your breath away.
What we will do
We will meet 10 minutes before the agreed time at the Dolmen and Chapel of Santa Cruz, in Cangas de Onís, where the guide will meet us with the 4x4 vehicles. From there we will start the ascent to the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park on a 3-hour 4x4 route that will take us to Cain.
On the way, we will make strategic stops to visit the Salmonera de Caño (where the salmon spawning takes place) , cross the fluvial valley of the river Sella and reach the viewpoint of Pan de Rueda in the valley of Sajambre, where the peaks seem to touch the sky. We will also discover stories from the 16th century in the Charco de los Lobos.
Once in the village of Cain, we will have up to 2 hours of free time to have lunch, stretch our legs and soak up the rural atmosphere before starting the hike. We will say goodbye momentarily to the guide to continue along this emblematic route of the Cares Route. The 12 km self-guided route will take us through gorges and over hanging bridges to Poncebos.
At the end of the route, we will get back into the Land Rover to return to Cangas de Onís. Weather permitting, we can enjoy a last stop at Pozo de la Oración to contemplate the silhouette of the Urriellu peak from one of the best viewpoints in the area.
The total duration of the experience is approximately 9 hours.
