Full description
They say there’s nothing new under the sun, but beneath the surface of the Garraf lies a whole karst labyrinth waiting to be discovered.
If you fancy trying your hand at caving without feeling like you’re heading down a tunnel with no way out, this chasm bathed in natural light is the perfect outing just a short distance from Barcelona. In the Garraf Natural Park , the Avenc del Passant awaits you for a 3-hour c n caving experience. Kitted out with a harness, you’ll descend a thrilling 23-metre abseil to explore unique rock formations alongside a professional guide. An adventure suitable for ages 9 and over, which includes souvenir photos.
What we will do
We’ll meet at the agreed time at the meeting point in Parc del Garraf, Barcelona. There, we’ll be welcomed and kitted out with the harness and necessary safety equipment. During a brief briefing, we’ll go over the basic guidelines for moving along the route and the technique for abseiling with confidence before setting off on a 10-minute walk to the entrance of the chasm.
Once ready, it’ll be time to peer into the depths! We’ll stand in front of the large 10 x 6-metre entrance, secure the ropes and get ready for action. We’ll tackle a thrilling 23-metre abseil, feeling the thrill of descending suspended in mid-air whilst the cool air of the cave envelops us until we set foot on the rocky ground.
Once down, the real karst exploration begins along a 65-metre route. For around an hour and a half underground, we’ll make our way through passages carved out by water, where we’ll enjoy the curious advantage of natural light filtering in clearly, meaning we won’t need torches at various points. The guide will adapt the route by choosing different paths depending on the group’s interests and ability, allowing us to climb and navigate over ledges with complete freedom of movement.
After completing the route and returning to the surface, we’ll take off our gear whilst sharing stories, and round off the day by enjoying a light snack to recharge our batteries and look through the photos from the day.
The activity will last approximately 3 hours in total (including preparations and the approach) .
