Caving in the Avenc de la Codoleda in the Sant Llorenç del Munt and Serra de l’Obac Park

Why go to the trouble of going round a mountain when you can go straight through it?

In the Sant Llorenç del Munt Natural Park (just an hour from Barcelona), the Avenc de la Codoleda awaits you for a 4-hour introductory caving experience . Kitted out with a harness, you’ll traverse the rock from one side to the other, abseiling down a thrilling 18-metre drop and exploring secret passages 32 metres underground alongside your professional guide. A challenge suitable for ages 10 and over, which includes souvenir photos.

What we will do

We will meet at the agreed time at the meeting point in Matadepera, Barcelona. There , the guide will welcome you and fit you with the harness and necessary safety equipment. During a brief briefing, we’ll go over the basic techniques for moving through the cave and handling ropes before heading to the cave entrance, in the heart of the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac Natural Park.

Once we’re ready, the underground journey will begin! The Avenc de la Codoleda is no ordinary cave: it’s a genuine traverse where we’ll journey through the depths of the Plecs del Llibre, entering through a fissure and emerging on a completely different slope. The start is no walk in the park: we’ll peer into a vertical entrance to begin an 18-metre free abseil. With our feet suspended in the air and gliding alongside a millennia-old rock flow, we’ll float down until we land at the bottom of the main chamber.

Once in the depths, 32 metres underground, we’ll enter a passage flanked by imposing walls. For around an hour and a half in the cave, the route will invite us to play with the terrain: we’ll navigate a fun narrow passage by contorting our bodies, make our way along a 10-metre fixed rope, and cross a handrail carved from solid rock until we reach a chamber full of ledges. To round off these 145 metres of underground labyrinth, we’ll tackle a short climb and a final 5-metre crawl that will suddenly bring us back into the light of day.

Back on the surface and with the satisfaction of having traversed the mountain from the inside, we’ll take off our gear amidst laughter. We’ll round off the day in style by enjoying a well-deserved snack to toast the adventure, recharge our batteries and look back at the best photos of the day.

The activity will last approximately 4 hours in total (including preparations) .

Who it is aimed at

This activity is recommended for those aged 10 and over; minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult or provide a signed authorisation form.

Beginner-level activity: perfect for getting started in the world of caving in an accessible and dynamic way.

Given the size of the chambers and the steady pace of progress, claustrophobia is not usually a problem.

If you are over 2 metres tall or weigh more than 170 kg, you must inform the organiser before the activity so that suitable equipment can be provided.

This activity is not suitable for pregnant women or participants with reduced mobility.

Other information

The experience takes place all year round, usually with a morning session at 09: 30.

A minimum of 5 participants is required to confirm the shared group tour , with a maximum capacity of 20 places.

Parking is available on site . The meeting point is not accessible by public transport.

Pets are not permitted on this activity.
