Canyoning Palomeras del Fornacal in the Sierra de Guara in Huesca

Canyoning in Palomeras del Fornocal is perfect for beginners in abseiling and rappelling. This hidden canyon is up to 100 metres deep, but its descent is very accessible, with a landscape that seems to be from another planet, jumps, abseiling and simple rappels that make this canyon an unforgettable experience.

What we will do

The meeting point will be in the vicinity of the canyon, on the road from Arcusa to Colungo, 10 minutes before the booking time. There we will meet the guide, who will give us the approved equipment and give us the first indications on safety and progression.

From this point, we will walk just 5 minutes to the riverbed, where the adventure begins. The descent of the Palomeras del Fornocal is one of the lesser known jewels of the Sierra de Guara: for about 2 hours we will cross a narrow, deep and mysterious ravine, whose walls reachup to 100 metres high.

Throughout the route we will find abseilings, deep pools, narrow sections where we can choose our own path and threerappels of medium difficulty, always secured with an auxiliary rope. One of them will take us into the area where wood pigeons nest, the origin of the name of the ravine.

There will be times when there is hardly any light, and if we are lucky, we will be able to see a rainbow forming between the walls. We will also pass through excavated passages, slides and panoramic points where we can stop to contemplate the landscape from the inside.

The last part connects with the Fornocal ravine, through which we will walk about 200 metres until we reach the bridge that marks the end of the experience. From there, there is only a short stretch of return along a somewhat vertical path, but perfectly guided.

The activity will last up to 3 hours, of which 2 hours will be spent inside the ravine.

Who it is aimed at

The activity does not require canyoning experience and is suitable for ages 7 to 65.

Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

It is necessary to know how to swim. If you do not know how to swim you will have to inform the guide.

The experience is not suitable for pregnant women, people with severe vertigo or motor disabilities. Other injuries or medical problems must be reported to the guide in advance. You will receive contact details in the booking confirmation email.

Other information

The activity is available from April to October and is confirmed if a minimum group of 3 people is reached.

Before the day of the activity you will need to provide the guide with the following information: name, age, weight, height and number of feet. You will receive the contact details in the booking confirmation email.

Please note that you will be in the middle of nature and there is no area to change or leave personal belongings.

It is not advisable to carry mobile phones or other electronic devices during the activity. The guide will take photos of the experience to share with all participants.

Accompanying persons not participating in the activity may wait for a walk in the area, but there is no specific area for them.

Free parking is available at the meeting point . The area cannot be reached by public transport.
