Full description

Sometimes, all you need is to hop into a canoe, let the current of the River Deva carry you along, and enjoy a leisurely 2½ to 3-hour trip from Unquera.

A fantastic, active outing, ideal for families or friends aged 4 and over. You’ll paddle along a 6-kilometre stretch entirely at your own pace, combining short bursts of excitement in the rapids with stops to swim, sunbathe or spot herons and friendly otters.

What we will do

We’ll meet 15 minutes before the departure time at the meeting point in Unquera, Cantabria, to make the necessary preparations. Here we will be given all the necessary equipment — the canoe, paddles and life jacket — and we will be briefed on the basics of the self-guided route so that we can enjoy it in complete safety. Once ready, we’ll board the organisers’ van for a comfortable 15–20-minute transfer to the starting point on the river.

We’ll begin our free-flowing descent down the River Deva, covering a 6-kilometre stretch that marks the geographical boundary between Cantabria and Asturias. As this is an unguided activity, we’ll be the ones deciding the pace of the trip. We’ll pass through sections with a current that will add a touch of excitement to the journey, alternating with stretches of calm water ideal for relaxing, taking in the surroundings and keeping an eye out for birds such as herons, ducks or even the elusive otter.

We’ll make the most of the trip by stopping off, taking a dip in the calmest parts of the river or simply relaxing in the sunshine. At the end of the route, the van will pick us up to take us back to base in a journey of just 5 minutes. There we can get changed in comfort and enjoy a refreshing hot shower, rounding off a perfect experience lasting between two and a half and three hours in total.

Who it is aimed at

This activity is suitable for beginners. No high level of fitness is required, and there are no weight or height restrictions.

The minimum age to take part is 4 years old, and children must always be accompanied by an adult in the boat.

Young people aged 13 and over can paddle alone in their own canoe, whilst those aged 17 and over will only need a signed consent form from their parents.

You do not need to know how to swim to enjoy the trip, although the use of a life jacket is compulsory.

For safety reasons, the activity is not permitted for pregnant women.

It is accessible to people with reduced mobility, although we ask that you contact us in advance so that we can adapt the logistics for getting into the kayak.

Other information

The descent is available every day of the year.

To confirm the group activity, a minimum of 6 participants is required in total.

The facilities offer free parking, as well as changing rooms and hot showers.

We do not recommend travelling by public transport.

Those accompanying you who are not taking part in the activity can wait comfortably at the base whilst enjoying the surroundings.

Pets are allowed in the canoes, provided your dog is used to the water, remains calm during the trip and does not disturb the other participants.
