Full description
Have you ever seen a dolphin in the wild?
With this boat tour, the sighting of cetaceans is guaranteed. Embark for 2 hours from Tarifa accompanied by expert biologists. You will sail through one of the best ecosystems in the world to see whales and dolphins in total freedom and with the utmost respect for the environment.
Let the wild nature of the Strait of Gibraltar surprise you.
What we will do
We will meet at the Tarifa office about 45 minutes before departure to exchange our boarding tickets. After a short 2-minute walk to the boat, we will be met by the expert biologists who will accompany us throughout the day; while it is time to board, we can relax in the rest area provided.
Once on board and as we leave the port, we will listen to the indications about the activity and the safety rules necessary for responsible navigation. We will set course for one of the best areas in the world for wildlife watching in the wild: a privileged ecosystem where up to seven species of cetaceans coexist.
During the crossing, our guides will explain the curiosities of this navigation between two seas while we look for the usual residents, such as common dolphins or pilot whales. In addition to cetaceans, we will keep our eyes peeled for migratory birds, tuna or sunfish crossing between continents. We will always sail under strict environmental protection regulations, guaranteeing a respectful encounter that does not disturb the marine life.
The activity will last approximately 2 hours, depending on the time we need to locate the specimens, although the sighting of at least one species is guaranteed.
Who it is aimed at
The excursion is suitable for all ages.
Minors must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.
The boats are adapted for people with disabilities. Wheelchair accessible places are limited, so it is necessary to contact the tour organiser to reserve them. You will receive the contact details in the booking confirmation email.
Other information
The tour runs from mid-March to mid-October.
Important : you will need to call the tour organiser on the day of the activity to confirm that the weather is favourable. Departures may be subject to last minute changes or even cancellation due to weather conditions, and notifications will only be sent to you by SMS.
Babies under 1 year old travel free of charge, but it will be necessary to communicate their presence to ensure that they have a place. Pensioners are entitled to a 10% discount, which will be applied after booking. Please contact the tour organiser to arrange the presence of infants or pensioners. Depending on the season and demand, the boat will be one of the following:
- Jackelin: 22. 7 metres in length and capacity for 165 people. It has a bar service, toilets, three external and internal decks and an underwater viewing chamber.
- Pirata de Sálvora: 16. 75 metres in length and capacity for 62 people. It has a toilet, an open area and a covered area.
Sightings of at least one species of cetacean are guaranteed. If no whales are spotted, you will receive a ticket with no expiry date to repeat the tour.
You are welcome to bring your own snack, but it is forbidden to feed the animals in the wild.
As this is a shared tour, pets are not allowed on board.
In high season it can be difficult to find parking: there are many paid car parks in the surrounding area and, on a longer walk, there are also free parking areas. It is also possible to get there by public transport: city bus stop nearby and intercity connection about 15 minutes walk away.
