Full description
Did you know that more than 3, 000 cranes can gather in the Lagunas de El Oso on a single winter day?
In this experience of up to 4 hours you will see why this place is one of the most amazing wetlands in Ávila. You will circle the lagoon, visit observatories and watch cranes, birds of prey, waterfowl and steppe birds in an environment that changes with every flap of wings.
What we will do
We will meet 10 minutes before the agreed time at the meeting point in the municipality of El Oso, in La Moraña, from where we will head towards the Lagunas de El Oso, one of the most important ornithological sites in Ávila and a real refuge for waterfowl, birds of prey, steppe and wintering birds.
On arrival, we will start a guided tour around the lagoon, a quiet route designed to observe the biodiversity that inhabits this unique ecosystem. With the help of binoculars and a telescope, we will try to identify species such as the imperial eagle, black and griffon vultures, red kites, harriers, great bustards, great whitethroats, lapwings, kestrels and many other birds that use this area as a breeding, wintering or resting area during their migrations.
During the route we will also visit several observatories strategically located to enjoy the birds comfortably and without disturbing them, learning to recognise behaviour, silhouettes, traces and particularities of this habitat.
After the route, we will go to the Interpretation Centre of the Lagunas de la Moraña, where we will discover more about the region, its natural history and the ecological importance of these lagoons. We will even be able to operate the surveillance cameras installed in the lagoon to see the birds that are there at that moment live and up close.
We will finish the activity after approximately 4 hours of observation, interpretation and nature in one of the most valuable wetlands of Castilla y León.
