Astronomy observation with wine tasting in the Tabernas Desert

If you think a night under the stars couldn’t get any better, it’s because you haven’t yet paired it with a few glasses of award-winning wine and tapas from Almería.

Escape the daily grind on a two-hour adventure in the Tabernas Desert, designed to let you enjoy the night sky and the finest flavours the region has to offer. Accompanied by a certified Starlight guide, you’ll learn to find your way among the constellations and see planets, nebulae and galaxies through high-powered professional telescopes. What’s more, you’ll sample local agro-ecological wines alongside a selection of regional cheeses, olives and hummus beneath one of the clearest skies in continental Europe.

What we will do

We’ll meet 5 minutes before the agreed time at the meeting point in the Tabernas Desert. The activity will begin around 40 minutes after sunset so that we can enjoy the ideal darkness. There, we will be met by our guide, an astronomy instructor certified by the Starlight Foundation, who will welcome us and explain how we will make the most of the unique conditions of this desert sky.

We’ll start with a 45-minute guided tour of the night sky and its constellations. Whilst the guide reveals the mythology and secrets hidden within the stars, we’ll enjoy an exquisite tasting: at least three glasses of award-winning agroecological wine, paired with a selection of local cheeses, olives, raisins and creamy hummus.

In the second part, with our palates satisfied, we’ll get down to business with 45 minutes of in-depth stargazing using two high-end professional telescopes. Taking turns, we’ll look through the eyepiece to marvel at the treasures of the cosmos depending on the time of year: from the Moon’s craters and planetary rings to brilliant nebulae, star clusters and distant galaxies.

As it’s a very small group, we’ll be able to ask all the questions we’re curious about and gaze at the night sky in complete tranquillity. We’ll also take a group photo as a memento under the stars. After two hours of cosmic and gastronomic immersion, we’ll say our goodbyes with a wonderful aftertaste and the certainty that we’ve experienced one of the most special nights in Almería.

This experience is suitable for people of all ages.

Children must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.

The perfect activity for both curious beginners and astronomy enthusiasts.

It is essential to notify us in advance of any food allergies or intolerances when making your booking so that we can check whether the menu can be adapted. Juice will be served for the youngest members of the group.

This activity is not accessible to wheelchair users or those with reduced mobility due to the uneven terrain of the desert.

Pets are allowed.

The activity is available all year round. Sessions take place on Saturdays.

The stargazing session begins approximately 40 minutes after sunset; the organiser will confirm the exact time in the booking confirmation email.

It takes place in mixed groups of a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 8 participants.

There is free parking in the natural grounds next to the meeting point. There is no regular public transport service to the exact location; you will need to make your own way there by car.

If anyone in the group needs a chair to sit on rather than sitting on the ground on the blankets, you can request this in advance.

You can request a personalised individual photo during the evening for an additional charge of €2.
