Full description
If you’re looking for an exclusive expedition to lose yourself in ancient forests, discover high-mountain landscapes and follow in the footsteps of the brown bear at your own pace, this is the place for you.
Spend four hours in an exclusive 4x4 exploring the wildest corners of the Fuentes del Narcea Natural Park, from Cangas del Narcea to the historic Brañas del Narcea. A private, guided tour for up to 7 people, taking you through the imposing Monasterio beech forest and past strategic vantage points to spot wildlife in the wild and admire the source of the River Narcea in comfort and at your own pace.
What we will do
You will be met on time at the meeting point in Cangas del Narcea, or directly at your accommodation if you have arranged to be picked up within the town centre. There , your qualified guide and driver will be waiting for you by the Toyota Land Cruiser. They will welcome you, provide you with a pair of binoculars and finalise the details of this private expedition according to your preferences before starting the engines.
You’ll set off along the main road before quickly turning off onto mountain tracks that climb up the Sierra del Pando. You’ll pass by the historic chapel of San Pelayo and continue climbing towards the hermitages of San Gervasio and La Magdalena, in Trasmonte. You’ll reach the summit amidst ancient oak groves and the remains of old coal mines, crossing over to the other side of the ridge towards the valley of the village of Gedrez.
You’ll climb alongside the course of the young River Narcea and enter the imposing Monasterio beech forest, recognised as the second-largest natural beech forest in Europe. After passing through the hamlet of Monasterio de Hermo, you’ll reach the idyllic Brañas del Narcea, surrounded by tall pastures and traditional shepherds’ huts. There you’ll stop for a hot coffee with traditional pastries and, if you fancy a bit of a walk, you can take a pleasant stroll to the source of the River Narcea.
You’ll continue in the 4x4 to a strategic natural viewpoint right in the heart of the Fuentes del Narcea Natural Park. This will be the highlight of the trip: the moment to focus your binoculars and patiently search for the mountain range’s large inhabitants: the elusive Cantabrian brown bear, roe deer, chamois and wild boar. Throughout the wildlife spotting, the guide will also reveal the tracks, habits and biological secrets of this wild corner of Asturias.
You’ll head back to the starting point on a comfortable 30-minute drive, with the option to round off the day by enjoying a home-cooked meal at a high-mountain restaurant. In total, you’ll enjoy four hours of authentic immersion in nature, lush forests and wildlife in the wild, in an exclusive experience for your group.
